UPLAND, Ind. -- The Madonna University baseball team dropped the series with No. 9 Taylor University on Friday, February 23rd. In game one the Crusaders would lose 3-4  and in game two would lose 20-2.   

Game 1:

Entering game one the Crusaders looked to get a huge win against a top ranked Taylor team and they would take them all the way to the last out. The Trojans were the ones to strike first putting up three runs quickly in the first inning. The Crusaders would answer right back in the top of the second after a Logan Ellis single, Pablo Rebollar would hit a two run homer to put the game at 3-2 in favor of the Trojans. The game would be scoreless until the fifth inning when the Crusaders would strike again after a Johnny Stepek single which would set up Kyle Revere for an RBI after a pickoff error on Stepek which would send him to second. Revere would ground out to the shortstop but was able to get the run in to make it a 3-3 ball game. Then Taylor would finish the game on a walk-off base hit to score a run which would give the Crusaders a 4-3 loss to the Trojans. Dustin Cummins would get the start on the mound for the Crusaders and would struggle giving up three hits and three earned runs. Hayden Bailey would come in on relief and go six innings giving up only three hits with nine strikeouts.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

 

• Nick Krol would go 1-4 with a single.
• Rebollar would go 1-4 with a homerun and two RBI's.

Game 2:

The Crusaders looked to get a big win after a close game one against No. 9 Taylor but the Trojans would come out hot in game two. The Crusaders would score first in game two in the top of the first inning after Payton Mazzola would start the game with a leadoff single then advance to second on an error pick-off  which then set up Joshua Medrano to drive in the run on an RBI single. From then on it was all Trojans as they would put up a huge 20 run game.  The Crusaders would pick up another run in the 3rd inning off another Medrano single but would not be enough to keep up with the Trojans, taking down the Crusaders 20-2.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 

• Revere would go 2-4 with a single and a double.
• Medrano would go 2-3 with two RBI's.
• Mazzola would go 1-3 with a single.

UP NEXT:

Madonna will be back in action Saturday, March 2nd and Sunday, March 3rd for their spring break road trip starting in New Orleans, Louisiana as they take on Dillard University. First pitch is set for 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM on Saturday and 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM on Sunday.
