Crusaders battle with Tigers

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. - The Crusaders geared up for the second stop on their five-game road trip today. Their second stop took them through the Windy City to face the Tigers of Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.). The story of the game would certainly be defense, with both sides seeing multiple takeaways. In the end though, the Tigers would execute better overall, going on to win 42-15.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Finding themselves down 14-0 early, the Crusaders would get a huge momentum play when Tyress Claibourne read the play perfectly and picked off the Tigers' quarterback in their own territory. However, the Crusaders were unable to capitalize on the turnover.

After a huge throw from Taurean Singletary to wide receiver Imarion Kelly for 61-yards to set them up well in Tigers' territory, the Crusaders would get on the board with a 36-yard field goal from kicker William Stoyanovich. Crusaders now trailed 21-3 after the first quarter.

The Crusaders' stout defense held the Tigers scoreless in the second quarter, making a statement before the intermission.

The Crusaders would get into the endzone for the first time with a one-yard rush by Keel Watson IV late in the third quarter. The two point conversion would be no good, as the Tigers still led 28-9.

The Tigers would add on a few more scores before it was all said and done, but the Crusaders were able to get into the endzone once more as well. Singletary would line up out wide, and senior quarterback Max Morris would come in for the play. Morris was able to find Singletary in the endzone for the 20-yard score.

In the end, the Tigers would stay on top to  the end, going home with a 42-15 victory over the Crusaders.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Singletary was 14-of-23 passing for 152 yards and two interceptions, and also caught two passes for 49 yards and a touchdown.
  • Nah'Shon Williams led the team with 67 rushing yards.
  • Kelly brought in three receptions for 76 yards.
  • Claibourne led the defense with six total tackles and an interception.
