SYLVANIA, Ohio – Madonna University's #19 Men's Soccer Team (12-1-4, 9-0-2) faced off against WHAC opponent Lourdes University (7-6-3, 6-2-2) in a game where a Crusaders win could help them to control their own destiny to stay atop the WHAC and give them an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament. The Crusaders would neither win or lose as this game ended in a 0-0 draw. The current second place team in the WHAC, Indiana Tech, also finished in a draw Wednesday night leaving the Crusaders in first place in the WHAC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite the Crusaders being the better team on paper, the Gray Wolves were able to hold the Crusaders to a 0-0 tie for the second time in the series between the two with both 0-0 ties happening in Sylvania. Each team came out aggressive as there was a combined 35 fouls and 8 yellow cards amongst both squads. The Crusaders made plenty of offensive pushes as they led in many of the offensive statistical categories but were unable to find the back of the net. Lourdes showcased a strong defensive effort and gameplan to keep Madonna out of the net while both goalies displayed excellent work in the box. The shutout from Afonso Henrique is his 11th of the year and 15th of his career.
