Crusaders outran by Racers on the Road

LIMA, Ohio - Continuing their three-game road trip, the Madonna Crusaders (9-11, 5-9) traveled south of the state border to face the University of Northwestern Ohio Racers (8-12, 4-10). While the Crusaders would get off to a hot start, the Racers simply outran them late in the game to take a 83-64 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Sophomore Marcela Rodriguez got the Crusaders started with a driving layup for the Crusaders' first basket of the game. Aaliyah McQueen would knock down a jumper on their next possession, before Rodriguez would go to the rim for her second layup of the night already in the opening minutes. Dekota Smith would follow up with her first basket of the night to give the Crusaders an early 8-2 lead. The Racers would start to find their rhythm after this, but the Crusaders would hold onto the lead through the first quarter of play, up 16-13 after one period.

The Racers would quickly tie up the game in the opening possession of the second quarter, but Keairra Jennings would snatch it right back for the Crusaders. The back-and-forth pattern continued until the final five-minutes of the first half. The Racers began to heat up, going on a 10-3 run in the following three minutes. A pair of three-pointers from McQueen and Delani Robinson would cut into the deficit in the final minute, as the Crusaders would go into halftime trailing 35-30

Following the halftime break, the Racers would continue to roll offensively throughout the latter-half of play. Despite McQueen ending the game with an impressive 33 points, it was not enough to rally a Crusader comeback, as the Racers would take a 83-64 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • McQueen led the team with 33 points, just eight shy of her career-high.
  • Jennings also recorded double-digits with 10 points.
