LIVONIA, Mich. -- The Madonna University men's soccer team earned a 2-0 win over Georgetown College (Ky.) on Wednesday afternoon. The Crusaders' victory over the Tigers moves their record to 3-2 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

After appearing in his first match for Madonna on Saturday against Goshen, Corey Matthews made an enormous impact for the Crusaders. He scored his first goal of the season in the 16th minute, before adding the insurance goal in the 32nd minute. Matthews' second goal was assisted by Masayuki Sato.

The Tigers and Crusaders combined for 26 total fouls in the match, however the second half proved to be more physical. Six yellow cards were assessed following halftime, including four for Georgetown and two for Madonna. The Crusaders however kept their composure and came away with the non-conference victory. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 

• Matthews took five shots for the Crusaders, while Daniel Watkins and Fletcher Van Howe took three.
• The Crusaders outshot the Tigers 17-4. 
• Afonso Henrique made two saves for Madonna, while Shjon Ripy made five for Georgetown.
• Georgetown moved to 2-2 overall following the loss.
