LIVONIA, Mich. - The Madonna University men's soccer team came out with a homecoming victory over the Aquinas College Saints in a 2-0 final.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Crusaders came into homecoming weekend looking to get a big conference win over Aquinas and gain momentum going into the heart of conference season. It was a physical game with a total of nine yellow cards in the match but the Crusaders were able to control the possession and play poised to come away with the 2-0 victory. 

The Crusaders struck first in the first half off a free kick to Ryushin Hirami off the assist from Daniel Watkins to put the Crusaders up 1-0 in the 28th minute. The game continued with possession going back and forth throughout the game but the Crusaders were able to keep their momentum as they would seal the game with a late goal in the 87th minute off the foot of Andres Gomez to secure the 2-0 victory. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 

• Corey Matthews led the Crusaders with 4 shots in 25 minutes of play.
• Nathan Lamberti saw his first start in goal and had 6 saves.
• The Crusaders out shot the Saints 18-11.
• Madonna's also led in corner kicks over the Saints 8-4. 

UP NEXT:

Madonna will be back at home on Wednesday, October 4th to face the Gray Wolves of Lourdes University. Kickoff is set for 3:00 PM.
