LIVONIA, Mich. - The Madonna University women's soccer team hosted No. 2 Spring Arbor University (Mich.) on Wednesday afternoon. The defending NAIA National Champion Cougars came away with the 3-0 victory over the Crusaders, dropping Madonna's record to 3-3-1 overall. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

SAU dominated possession for the majority of the game, but didn't score the first goal until the 40th minute. Shelby Marshall scored off an assist from Isa Martinez, giving the Cougars a 1-0 halftime advantage.

Again in the second half, the Cougars controlled the majority of possession, however the Crusader defense continued to hold steady. Unfortunately, Spring Arbor was finally able to add insurance in the 69th minute to make it 2-0, before scoring the game's final goal in the final minute of play. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 

• Despite allowing three goals, Mackenzie Fifer made a solid seven saves for Madonna. 
• Spring Arbor outshot Madonna 20-3.
• Annika Arsenault and Alexa Johnson scored the final two goals for the Cougars.
