WESTFIELD. Ind. - The Madonna University men's lacrosse team opened their season with a 15-7 loss to sixth-ranked Webber International University on Wednesday afternoon from the Grand Park Sports Campus. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Crusaders jumped on the Warriors early. Kyle Gudme scored the first goal of the season to give Madonna a 1-0 lead. The lead grew to 2-0 thanks to a goal by Shane Alexander. After the Warriors cut the lead in half with 3:49 left in the opening period, Zachary Lane made it 3-1, before Webber International scored the final goal of the quarter with eight seconds left. 

In the second, Madonna extended their lead to 4-2 after Vince Floro found the back of the net. The Warriors responded however with a 6-1 run to take an 8-5 halftime lead. 

The second half saw the Crusaders get outscored 7-2 as the Warriors played strong defense the rest of the way to earn the victory. Madonna was shutout in the final quarter of play. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 

• Alexander scored two goals and added an assist for Madonna.
• Floro was the other Crusader with a multi-goal game.
• Dylan Hicks was the other goal scorer for Madonna. 
• Lane finished the day with a goal and three assists.
• Jeff Varner made 20 saves in goal for the Crusaders.
