LIVONIA, Mich. - The Madonna University women's basketball team ended their season with a 47-39 loss to visiting Aquinas College (Mich.) on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The first quarter proved to be the most offense for both sides, as the Crusaders outscored the Saints 16-15. Five points by Sarah Tanderys got Madonna's offense going while Marcela Rodriguez and Ashley Hill each had three. The second quarter was a bit more defensive, as Aquinas outscored Madonna 10-8 and took a 25-24 lead into the halftime locker room. 

The third quarter was a slugfest, as both teams only scored six points. Unfortunately for Madonna, an 11-2 run by Aquinas that began at the end of third quarter and continued into the fourth proved to be the difference. The Saints outscored the Crusaders 16-9 in the final period and escaped Alliance Catholic Credit Union Arena with a hard fought victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 

• Hill and Rodriguez led the scoring for Madonna with nine points each. Sarah Tanderys added eight points of her own. 
• Rodriguez also had a game-high seven rebounds. 
• Paige Humerickhouse scored seven points and went 5-of-8 from the free throw line.
• Both teams struggled offensively, as Madonna shot 22.4% from the field and Aquinas shot 26.7%.
• Mauriya Barnes led the Saints with 14 points.
