Brun leads Madonna past Rochester

LIVONIA, Mich. - A four goal output in the first half resulted in a 4-1 victory for the Madonna men's soccer team over Rochester University on Saturday. The Crusaders are 9-3-2 overall and 5-1-1 in WHAC play, while the Warriors fall to 3-7-2 and 1-5-1. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Just over one minute into the match, Yan Brun scored his first goal of the contest and made the score 1-0. In the 11th minute, Andres Gomez Rubiano found the back of the net off an assist by Dakota Klindt to make it 2-0. Two minutes later, Brun scored his second of the game off an assist by Matthew Rafferty. The final goal of the half came in the 21st minute courtesy of Ryushin Hirami from Corey Matthews. Madonna led 4-0 at the break, and outshot Rochester 9-5 in the opening 45 minutes. 

The Crusaders continued to be aggressive in the second half, holding an 8-4 shot advantage. Madonna however could not register any more goals. The final goal of the match came in the 79th minute when the Warriors' Nik Gjonaj found the back of the net.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
  • Nathan Lamberti earned the shutout victory in goal for the Crusaders, recording one save. 
  • Brun led all players with six shots. 
  • Kris Tauzik made one save for Rochester in the losing effort.
  • Madonna held a 10-0 advantage in corner kick attempts.
