Crusaders Come Out Victorious Over Cougars in Wild Game

 
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio- The Madonna Crusaders men's soccer team delivered a 3-2 comeback win over the Mount Vernon University Cougars on Saturday afternoon at the CH4 Stadium in Ohio. 
 
Madonna moves its record to 2-0-1 this season. 
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED :

 
The Crusaders and Cougars would have a very quiet first half but later turned it into a shootout in the second half. 
 
In the early parts of the second half, Keon Boney of the Cougars would go on to score the first goal of the game in the 47th minute with an assist from Zack Bower. The Crusaders did come back with an answer as Wagner Gameiro delivered the team's first score of the game in the 54th minute. Although with the game being tied up momentarily, Zack Bowser of the Cougars delivered another goal at the 62nd minute mark to make it 2-1.
 
Madonna continued to fight however, as Gameiro scored his second goal of the game in the 78th minute to tie the game at 2-2. 56 seconds later, Jordy Lopez scored what proved to be the game winner for the Crusaders as they earned the 3-2 victory. 
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 
 
  • The Cougars combined for 17 shots total and 8 SOG (shots on goal). 
  • The Crusaders combined for a total of 15 shots and 6 SOG (shots on goal). 
  • Both teams combined for a total of 10 corner kicks.
  • Youssou Ouendeno made nine saves in net for Madonna. 
 
UP NEXT: 
 
The Crusaders will return back to the field next Saturday, September 10th when they travel to Goshen, Indiana to face the Goshen Maple Leafs at 3:00 p.m.
