INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Madonna University football program lost its Mid-States Football Association Mideast Conference opener on Saturday afternoon to NAIA fifth-ranked Marian University. The host Knights raced out to a 58-0 halftime lead en route to an 86-0 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Crusaders received the opening kickoff, but were unable to get anything going on offense as William Stoyanovich had to come in and punt. 

Marian came out and scored 37 points in the first quarter, thanks to four touchdowns and a safety, before scoring three more touchdowns in the second quarter. 

In the second half, the Knights scored 28 points, while holding Madonna's offense out of the endzone. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 

• At quarterback for the Crusaders, Josh Depaulis was 5-of-12 for 60 yards, while Arthur Brantley IV was 5-of-16 for 48 yards.
• Spencer Rivera led the Madonna in rushing with seven carries for 27 yards.
• Nik Allgood had two catches for 39 yards, while Novell Chestnut had two catches for 33 yards.
• On defense Jesse Morris had nine tackles, while Carl Ware and Jakel Davis had seven each.

Madonna remains on the road to take on NCAA DII Northwood University next Saturday, September 10th. The game will begin at 1:00 p.m. from Hantz Stadium in Midland, Mich.
