Crusaders battle with NCAA Division II Timberwolves

MIDLAND, Mich. - The Madonna University football team fought hard against NCAA Division II Northwood University on Saturday, but it was the host Timberwolves who came away with the 38-0 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Madonna received the opening kickoff but fumbled just two plays in and Northwood scored 59 seconds into the game as quarterback Nate Gomez found Shamon Gennes from 15 yards out to make it 7-0. The Timberwolves later added to their first quarter lead with a one-yard touchdown run by Brec Alward to make it 14-0 after one.

Early in the second quarter, Alward added another one-yard touchdown run to make it 21-0. The next drive saw the Crusaders get into Timberwolves territory, as D'vonta Garrett found Cole Rosenow for a 32-yard completion to the Northwood 28. However the drive stalled for Madonna as Northwood pushed back Spencer Rivera for a loss of two yards and later sacked Arthur Brantley IV for a loss of 10, forcing a punt by Josh DePaulis

The Timberwolves added another score to make it 28-0 at the half, before the Crusader defense held them off the scoreboard in the third quarter.

In the fourth, Northwood scored one more touchdown and added a 20-yard field goal en route to the final whistle.
