Crusaders hold off Cougars for 2-1 victory

Livonia, Mich.- – The Madonna University men's soccer team defeated the Spring Arbor University Cougars 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon at the Madonna Athletic Complex in Livonia. Madonna advances its record to 4-0-1 this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

The Crusaders did an amazing job early in the first half with a very aggressive play style, Jordy Lopez scored the team's first goal in the 14th minute with the assist of Issei Ito

In the early part of the second half, Lopez struck again, scoring his third goal of the season and second of the game at the 47th minute mark. The Cougars soon answered back with a goal of their own by Jack Voight in the 60th minute to make it 2-1.


However, this was not enough to bypass the Crusaders as the team combined for nine shots and two corner kicks. With an intrusive play style, the Crusaders held on for the victory. 


INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  •  Both teams played extremely physical, combining for 32 fouls total, while four yellow cards were handed out. 
  •  Both teams combined for a total of 17 shots and five corner kicks

The Crusaders will travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to face the Pioneers of Point Park University on Saturday, September 17th at the HighMark Stadium. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
