MT. PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Madonna University baseball team headed to mid-Michigan for a challenge on Tuesday, taking on Central Michigan University from NCAA Division I. The Crusaders fell to the Chippewas, 5-23.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The game opened with Madonna threatening in the first inning, as Alex Garbacik led off the game with a single down the right field line. Anthony Sharkas walked to set up runners on first and second, but the Crusaders were unable to capitalize and score. In the bottom of the first, Crusaders starting pitcher Victor Mencotti struck out the side.
Central would add three runs each in the bottom halves of the second and third to take a 6-0 lead, but the Crusaders fought their way back into the game. In the top of the fourth with the bases loaded and no out, Steffen Dyl singled to score Jace Matkin and Matt Staelgraeve. Kyle Revere scored on an Aaron Sexton groundout and Nick Krol doubled to score Dyl.
From there on, the Chippewas were able to score runs in large amounts, putting the game out of reach for the Crusaders. The fourth inning was not the only offensive highlight forever, as Cal Fournier doubled in the top of the ninth to score Cade Parmenter.

The Crusaders are back on the diamond on Saturday, as they head on the road to take on University of Michigan-Dearborn in a doubleheader. The games will be played in Dearborn, Mich.
