LIMA, Ohio -- The Madonna University baseball team dropped a pair of games on Wednesday, a doubleheader at the University of Northwestern Ohio. The Crusaders lost a heartbreaker in the opener, 12-10, and lost 10-3 in the nightcap.

GAME 1 - HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Crusaders' bats came out strong in the top half of the second, with an Aaron Sexton single scoring Jace Matkin to open the scoring. Steffen Dyl singled to left, scoring Sexton and Matt Staelgraeve. Later, Ryan Celmer hit a triple to right, scoring Dyl and Colin McHugh. The Crusaders' strong inning would be capped by a Zachary Beadle homer to center, and the Crusaders would end the inning leading 7-0.

After adding some insurance, including an Aaron Garbacik home run in the top of the 6th, Madonna would allow a Racer rally in the bottom of the sixth, allowing seven runs for UNOH to take a 12-10 lead. The Crusaders were unable to come back in the top of the seventh, and lost the game 12-10.

GAME 2 - HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Crusaders opened the game strong, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Matkin doubled to score Kyle Revere, and Kyle Aniol scored on a passed ball.

However, the Madonna bats went cold after the opening frame, as they were only able to score one more run all game, as Nick Krol scored on a dropped third pitch in the top of the ninth. The Crusaders lost the game, 10-3.

BY THE NUMBERS:

  • Steffen Dyl led the Crusaders' offense in game one, with three runs batted in
  • The Crusaders have scored double-digit runs in 6 of 14 games this season
