Crusaders Dominate Cleary in Weather-Shortened Game

HOWELL, Mich. -- The Madonna University women's lacrosse team made it look easy against Cleary University on Wednesday, winning 16-4. This improves the Crusaders' record to 5-1 on the season, and to 1-1 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

The Crusaders started out hot, scoring three consecutive goals to open the game. Makennah Blackman opened the scoring, then Courtney Hoeland scored two consecutive goals to take a 3-0 lead. After two goals by Cleary, Aria Gettel scored to make it 4-2 at the end of the first quarter.

Madonna had a big second quarter, scoring nine goals in the period. Madison Kadwell recorded three of them, including two within 29 seconds, and Lilly McKee also added two assists in the frame. With a 13-4 lead at halftime, the Crusaders came out of the break continuing their form, scoring three goals in the third quarter while shutting out Cleary in the frame.

After the third quarter, the game was shortened due to inclement weather in the area.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Gettel and Kadwell each scored three goals
  • McKee had three assists
  • Blackman led the Crusaders picking up five ground balls
  • Sophia Hadash was strong in goal, only allowing four goals while making eight saves


UP NEXT:

The Crusaders play their next contest this Saturday, March 26 at 2:00 PM. They take on Rochester University at the Madonna Soccer and Lacrosse field.
