KOKOMO, Ind.-- The Madonna University baseball team won their second game in a row on Tuesday afternoon, as they took a road win against Indiana University-Kokomo, winning 5-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Crusaders opened the scoring with a four-run top half of the second inning, to go up 4-0. Both Jace Matkin and Aaron Sexton walked, with Matt Staelgraeve driving Matkin in with an RBI single. Kyle Revere reached base on a fielder's choice, scoring Sexton, with Dylan Pawenski then singling to left. Another single to left by Colin McHugh would score Revere, followed by an RBI double by Alex Garbacik. Madonna's rally would be abruptly ended by a IU-Kokomo double play, Steffen Dyl flying out to left and McHugh being thrown out at home.

The Cougars would show fight in the bottom of the third, as they were able to rally for two runs to cut the deficit to 4-2. The Crusaders would add insurance in the 5th inning with a Matkin RBI single, and IU-Kokomo would add runs in the 5th and 7th innings. Down by one in the bottom of the ninth, The Cougars managed to get a man in scoring position with two outs, but Danny Medlock remained composed, shutting the door out of the pen, earning the save while clinching the win for Madonna.

• Victor Mencotti picked up his first win of the season, with 3 innings of work.
• Matkin was just a home run shy of the cycle, going 3-4, also adding a walk to his strong game. 

UP NEXT

The Crusaders will head south to St. Louis, playing a three-game series against Harris-Stowe State University (Mo.) starting this Friday.
