Crusaders secure WHAC Regular Season Championship with victory over Lawrence Tech

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Madonna University men's soccer program wrapped up the WHAC Regular Season Championship with a 2-0 victory at Lawrence Tech University on Saturday night. The Crusaders finished the regular season with an undefeated record of 14-0-3 overall and 9-0-2 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. Madonna will be the number one seed in the WHAC Tournament. It is the first regular season WHAC title for the Crusaders' men's soccer team since 2018, and first outright regular season championship since 2017.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The game was scoreless until the 20th minute of play. That was when Jordy Lopez found the back of the net to make it 1-0. It remained that way heading into the halftime break.

In the second half, Ryushin Hirami added an insurance goal for the Crusaders to make it 2-0 in the 85th minute. It remained that at the final whistle, and Madonna secured the victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Lopez notched his eighth goal of the season, while Hirami his fourth.
  • Youssou Ouendeno made seven saves in yet another outstanding performance at the goalkeeper position.
  • The host Blue Devils outshot the Crusaders 15-12, but couldn't get a goal through.

UP NEXT:

Madonna will host Siena Heights in the WHAC Quarterfinals next Saturday from the Madonna Athletic Complex. The game is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
