LIVONIA, Mich.-- A 2-0 statement win for the Madonna University Women's Soccer team kicks off the home defense at the Madonna Athletic Complex over the University of Mobile (Ala.) Rams on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Madonna saw four shots before the first one crossed the goal line behind Mary Philimona, Morgan Kroon, Megan Verant, and Abby Werthman before Verant was able to land one in the back of the net at the 29:32 mark. Holly McManus had one final opportunity that went wide left before the half as the Crusaders went to the bench with the 1-0 edge.

Philimona, Werthman, and Kroon saw three quick opportunities open for Madonna as the three went either high or just to the right of the Rams' goal. A frenzy of shots then came pouring in by the Crusaders' attacking front as Werthman bites out the second goal of the game at the 77:27 point. 

Mobile couldn't find an answer down the stretch with zero shot opportunities to be had as Madonna's Victoria Sia nearly gave the Crusaders one more at the end as her shot trickled inches to the right.

• The Crusaders extend their unanswered goal streak to 16.
• They won the shot battle 18 total and six on goal to Mobile's (Ala.) three total and one on goal.
• Verant, Werthman, and Philimona combined for 13 shots. 
• Held Mobile without a corner kick.
