Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Crusaders Off to Best Start Since 2018.

LIVONIA, Mich.-- Madonna University's women's soccer team was able to defeat Thomas More University with a 2-0 statement win on Friday afternoon at the Madonna Athletic Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Friday's contest was a very physical one as both teams came into the game undefeated, and neither one was backing down. Both team's defense was on full display early until at the 13:33 mark when Mary Philimona found reigning WHAC Offensive Player of the Week Megan Verant cutting inside the box for the first score of the game. The Crusaders and the Saints both had more opportunities to score in the first half, but none were successful as at the half it was 1-0.

In the second,  it was yet again a pretty physical half and very few opportunities to get another goal compared to previous games. Although the Crusaders would catch a break as at the 66:05 mark the Saints had a bit of miscommunication around their own goal, and Abby Werthman was able to capitalize on it and increase the lead to 2-0.

Crusader's goalie tonight was Alex Thomas, just like her previous two starts, Thomas and the defense were dominant. Thomas came away with three saves and punched away a couple corner kicks as well.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The Crusaders extended their unanswered goal streak to 39.
  •  Thomas was steller in goal tonight, recording her third straight shutout of the season.
