WINONA LAKE, Ind.-- The Madonna University Men's Soccer team traveled to Indiana for a match up against the Grace College (Ind.) Lancers at 1st Source Bank Field on Wednesday evening, pulling off the victory 2-0. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

In the first half, the Crusaders had an early opportunity in the first six minutes to get on the board. Issei Ito was able to slip past the defense and was able to get the shot off but the Lancer came up with the save. 

Goalie Youssou Ouendeno came up huge for the Crusaders, though the Lancers held a slight edge 3-1 on shots on goal in the first half as Ouendeno saved all three attempts within a span of fifteen minutes. 

The game was scoreless into the 59th minute, until Ryota Nakajima was able to find a cutting Ito who launched a missile into the net, giving the Crusaders a 1-0 lead. 

The Crusaders were finally able to put the nail in the coffin when in the 82nd minute as Nakajima was taken down in the box and was rewarded with a penalty kick. Nakajima made the most of  his opportunity and put the game out of reach. 


INSIDE THE NUMBERS
 

• The Crusaders would win the shots battle 10-7 over the Lancers. However, the Lancers won the shots on goal battle 5-4.
• Madonna's keeper Ouendeno would make a couple quality saves and finished with five saves on the day, getting his third shutout of the season.

The Crusaders will welcome Mount Vernon Nazarene University (Ohio) to The Madonna Athletic Complex on Saturday, September 18, kickoff will be at 4:00 p.m.
