In the first game of the afternoon/evening the Wolverines were able to pull out a close 5-4 win over the Warriors.

GAME 1

TURNING POINT
  • A Crusader five run first inning propelled Madonna on their way to a 6-4 win with back-to-back home runs from Noah Moore and Ryan Celmer.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Crusaders jumped on the Warrior starter from the get-go as the first five batters in the lineup were able to get on base. Kyle Aniol crossed the plate first for Madonna on an RBI single from Jace Matkin. Noah Moore came up to the plate next as he added three more runs with a swing of the bat as he scored Zachary Beadle and Matkin. Ryan Celmer came up to the plate and was able to knock his pitch over the right center field wall to create the back end of back-to-back home runs.
  • In the second the Warriors would grab three of those five runs back from the Crusaders. IT put two runs up on the board before MU was able to get an out. IT was able to score on a double to deep right center field and on a passed ball. The third run came in on a ground out.
  • Teams were quiet until the sixth inning when Madonna expanded their lead back to three. Ryan Celmer started the inning with a deep double to center field. He was able to come in and score on an Alex Garbacik sacrifice fly to center field.
  • The Warriors came up in the bottom of the eighth and were able to inch closer to the Crusader lead. They would take advantage of a Madonna error and score and put runners on second and third with two outs. The Crusaders would turn to John Beuckelaere for the four-out save and would strike out the first batter he saw.
  • The Crusaders bats would be silent in the top half of the ninth inning. Beuckelaere came back out to attempt to finish the save. He struck out the first Warrior of the inning and proceeded to get a fly out for the second run. After allowing a hit up the middle he would wind up striking out the final batter of the game.
