Gilbert, Schlaud Sweep WHAC Weekly Awards

LIVONIA, Mich. - The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners for the week of April 12-18 and Madonna University softball freshman Maeson Schlaud and sophomore Jenna Gilbert were named Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively. 

Maeson Schlaud WHAC Pitcher of the Week
A native of North Branch, Schlaud was instrumental out of the bullpen for the Crusaders in sweeps of Aquinas College (Mich.) and the University of Northwestern Ohio this weekend. In the final game against the Saints, the 5-foot-8 righthander allowed one unearned run on three hits with two strikeouts to earn the win with 2.2 innings pitched before allowed two unearned runs on five hits with six strikeouts over six innings against UNOH to finish the week 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA.

Jenna Gilbert Player of the Week
Gilbert had an incredible week as she finished 6-for-7 with five runs scored and four RBI. The Clio native started the weekend 6-for-6 with three pinch hits in the first three games, including the game-winning two-out, two-run home run to win game two against Aquinas. Her leadoff double in game one against UNOH sparked a rally to tie the game and then she went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a home run in the second game against the Racers. She hit .857 on the week and slugged 1.857 with an .875 on-base percentage. 

The duo will look to continue their stellar play when they travel to Adrian on Wednesday, April 21 for a WHAC doubleheader with Siena Heights University at 3:30 p.m. Live coverage links are available at mucrusaders.com as spectators are not allowed to watch from Siena Heights property, including parking lots and the service drive.
