LIVONIA, Mich.– The Madonna University Men's Soccer team played their first official home match at the Madonna Athletic Complex on Tuesday afternoon when they welcomed the Golden Eagles of Cornerstone University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first half saw both sides not being able to get anything going on the offensive end. The Crusaders were though able to dominate the time of possession as the ball was in their offensive end for the majority of the half.
  • The Crusaders were able to finally get into the scoring column when Masayuki Sato scored his first goal of the season after getting the opportunity off of a rebound off the post that he was able to give the Crusaders the 1-0 lead.
  • Neither team was able to get anything else on the board until the final 20 seconds when a late Madonna foul gave the Golden Eagles an opportunity. Luke Blickley took the free kick and made the short pass atop the Crusader defense to Caleb Turner who was in turn able to get the ball past the Crusader goalie to tie the game in the final seconds.
  • The first overtime saw the Crusaders gain a couple of solid opportunities from Ramon Rocha and Gian Marco Bevitori but neither were able to get the ball in the back of the net.
  • The game came to an end in the 103rd minute when Maitas Jaramillo Ospina was able to rebound the ball into the back of the net for the walk-off win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Crusaders dominated the offensive end of the field as they outshot the Golden Eagles 30-4 and 11-3 in shots on target.
  • Madonna attempted 12 corner kicks to Cornerstone's one.
  • The Blue and Gold had 12 different players attempt shots in the afternoon and were led by Kyle Tinnion and Ali Basma with four apiece.
