LIVONIA, Mich. -- Madonna University athletics director Scott Kennell announced on Monday afternoon that the interim tag has been removed from football head coach Herb Haygood.

"Herb has done an excellent job leading the program," said Kennell. "The players have responded well to his leadership and the staff he has assembled has helped our student-athletes improve both on and off the field. Herb's dedication and desire to build a winning program is evident and we are excited for what the future holds."

The announcement comes days after the program made history with the first points of the season as they scored 17 against No. 6 Concordia University (Mich.) on Saturday, March 27.

Haygood has expressed that his teams will be leaders in the community and in the classroom and that he believes he can build a championship-caliber program here at Madonna.

Haygood and the Crusaders are back in action this Saturday, April 3, as they host No. 10 Marian University (Ind.) at Churchill High School with kickoff slated for 12:30 p.m.
