Crusaders pickup 3-0 conference win against Saints

LIVONIA, Mich.– The Madonna University men's soccer team came back to the Madonna Athletic Complex for another Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup this time against the Saints of Siena Heights University. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Crusaders played with a one man for the majority of the match as the Saints had a red card in the 11th minute. 
  • Madonna would take advantage of playing 11 on 10 as Caio Mazzo Nogueira would score his second goal of the season after a back kick from Issei Ito would get Nogueira open enough for the goal.
  • The Crusaders next goal came in the 48th minute after Wagner Gameiro Febbe was able to get the ball on the right side of the net and beat the goalie to the opposite end.
  • The dagger in the game came in the 78th minute from Ian Billock after he got a breakaway pass from Febbe for the third and final goal of the afternoon. 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Crusaders dominated the shot column as they only allowed one shot on defense as they took 18 on the offensive end. Additionally, Madonna had 10 shots on goal. 
  • The Blue and Gold were pushing the ball as they had nine corner kicks to the Saints four.
  • 10 Madonna players got into the shot column as they were led off the bench by Febbe with four. 
ZATHEY MILESTONE
  • With the win Zathey has now surpassed 100 wins in his Madonna men's soccer career.
  • Zathey, has 173 total wins in his Madonna career as the men's and women's head coach, has been the coach on the men's side since 2013 and was the women's head coach for five seasons from 2001-2005.
