Women’s Basketball drops WHAC opener to Warriors

THE BASICS

Score: Madonna University 49, Rochester University 79

LIVONIA, Mich. -  The Madonna University women's basketball team dropped their Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference opener to Rochester University on Wednesday evening. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Warriors got off to a fast start to the game as they went up 10-0 in the first three minutes of the game. Claire LeRoux opened the scoring for the Crusaders off of a layup at the 7:25 mark. The Warriors went on a 11-4 run over three minutes to take a 23-7 lead. April Hudelson scored four points to end the quarter, which led the team. 
  • The second quarter the Crusaders were able to get hot from both sides of the floor. They were able to outscore the Warriors 18-12 in the quarter. Kennedy Carrier got the scoring started with a layup. Naomi Davis followed up with a three point basket. LeRoux and Aho were able to get back-to-back layups. Sharon Woodard hit a deep three pointer to end the half with the Crusaders down 10.
  • Madonna was able to start the half hot with a Sarah Tanderys three, that brought the Crusaders to within nine. The Warriors would be able to make a run to end the quarter with a 22-9 run. The fourth quarter was a lot of back and forth as the score was 18-10 throughout the quarter. LeRoux led the quarter with three points while Hudelson, Davis, and Josie Pergentili.

  • A Warrior 10-0 run to start the game over the first three minutes
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
  • LeRoux led the Crusaders with 12 points, three rebounds, one assist and one block
  • Emily Pendred led Madonna on the boards with 12 which included five on the offensive side. 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • 17: The Crusaders had 17 points off turnovers as opposed to the Warriors 23 points.  
  • 16: Rochester outscored Madonna in the paint 36-16 
  • 30.4: The Blue and Gold shot the ball at a 30.4% clip from the floor as opposed to Rochester's 44.3%

  • The Blue and Gold return to the court on Friday, January 29 when University of Northwestern Ohio comes into town for a 1 PM showdown.
