LIVONIA, Mich.- The sixth-ranked Madonna University men's lacrosse team got off to a fast start, but a scoreless second quarter led to an 8-5 loss to Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) in the 2020 home opener at the Madonna Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.

Jordan Davis, Trevor Callaghan and Lucas Kalscheur, on a man-down goal, helped the Crusaders build a 3-0 lead. Unfortunately, the offense went quiet in the second quarter and the Fighting Bees woke up to the tune of a 5-0 period to make it 5-3. 

A Tyler Kilar tally early in the third cut the deficit to one, but SAU added two more in the quarter to make it 7-4. Brendan Daschke gave the Blue and Gold some life in the fourth, but the Fighting Bees added one more tally in the final two minutes for the final margin. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Six different Crusaders tallied a point in the loss with Nick Conrad tallying the lone assist
• Daschke led the team with six groundballs and won 10-of-17 faceoffs
• Michael Molchan and Connor Wright led the defense with four caused turnovers each
• SAU outshot MU 39-38 and put 23 shots on goal to MU's 14
• Jeff Varner was stellar in goal for MU as he made 15 saves
• Madonna committed 30 turnovers while the Fighting Bees had 27
