• SERIES HISTORY: Cornerstone leads the all-time series 47-11, but Madonna has won the past three meetings which include a 72-59 win at home in December and an 85-78 win in Grand Rapids in February. CU has won all three tournament meetings with the last coming in the semifinals in 2014.

The winner will join Indiana Tech at the NAIA National Tournament with the second automatic bid for the WHAC. If MU wins it will be the first time in program history the team has made it to the national tournament in back-to-back season and will be the first WHAC title since the 2012-13 team. 

Madonna is a perfect 1-0 in WHAC tournament championship contests as they beat Davenport University in 2013 in Grand Rapids, 72-58. Overall MU is 9-19 in the WHAC tournament. 

The second seed in the tournament, Madonna defeated third-seed Rochester University in the semifinals on Saturday afternoon as Joshua Reynolds and Dwight Burton each poured in 25 points, Henry Speight added 24 to go with 10 rebounds and Juwan Hampton played big minutes off the bench and added 16 points. 

The fifth-seeded Golden Eagles played eight players, saw three foul out in the final minutes, and won on the road at top-seed Indiana Tech, 74-73. They got a season-high 21 points from Carter Nyp in the win.

20 total points separate the two teams this season with MU averaging 78.5 points per contest while CU has averaged 68.5 points. Burton has led the MU attack with 52 points (26 per game) while Reynolds has added 40 (20 per game). Reynolds has also led the team with eight rebounds per game while Mark Mettie has grabbed six boards per game and averaged six points. 

The Blue and Gold had played solid defense in the two contests, especially at the 3-point arc where they’ve held the Golden Eagles to a 28.6 percent (18-of-63) mark and just 37.8 percent (45-of-119) overall. 

Cornerstone is 54-17 in the WHAC tournament and has 10 tournament titles. The team is on its longest win streak of the season at six and Head Coach Kim Elders is two wins away from 700 in his career while Tyler Baker is 37 points away from 1,000 for his career. They have made the championship game in six of the past seven seasons and have four titles in that span. 

The Golden Eagles feature three players averaging 10+ points per game, led by Christian Rodriguez at 15 points per game and 111 assists. Baker is averaging 13.2 points on the year and Cory Ainsworth sits at 10.8 per game. Kyle Hayes leads the team at six rebounds per game while Carter Nyp (5.2) and Brent Hibbitts (5.0) are second and third, respectively. 

They rank in the bottom half of the league in scoring (72.23) and points allowed (70.97) per game but lead the league in free throw percentage, field goal percentage defense (.400), 3-point field goal defense (.311) and blocks (140, 4.52 per game).
