LIVONIA, Mich. - The 24th-ranked Madonna University men's basketball team took care of business inside the MU Activities Center on Saturday afternoon as the Blue and Gold extended its win streak to five games and notched season win No. 20 with a 96-81 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference victory over Lawrence Technological University.

The Crusaders led by as many as 10 points in the first half, but saw the Blue Devils cut the margin to four, 44-40, at the break. The Blue and Gold responded by shooting 61.1 percent (22-of-36) in the second half, committing just five second-half turnovers and recording nine steals en route to a pair of 20-point leads. 

The turning point in the contest came early in the second half as Dwight Burton and Henry Speight combined to hit three consecutive 3-pointers and Stephan Umfress tipped in a missed three to turn a five-point advantage into a 16-point margin. The last of MU's 20-point leads came on the third of three consecutive Mark Mettie dunks which made the score 94-74 with 2:31 to play. LTU outscored MU 7-2 the rest of the way for the final margin.

  • Burton led all scorers with 30 points and has at least 24 in his last four games while Joshua Reynolds added 21 points and has scored at least 20 points in eight of his last nine games, with the other game being 19 points
  • Mettie recorded his second straight double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds to go with six blocks...It's the second time this season he's had six blocks in a game and he has four double-doubles
  • Speight finished with 13 points
  • MU recorded 11 steals in the game and outrebounded LTU 35-24
