Turning Point: Sydney Brown 3-pointer with 45 seconds to play

LIVONIA, Mich. - Hollywood couldn't have written a better script for senior Sydney Brown and the Madonna University women's basketball team as Brown hit the biggest shot of her career, a 3-pointer with 45 seconds left, to put MU up by three, a lead they never let go in the 56-55 win to end the 2020 campaign.

It was a tightly contested game that featured 11 ties and 14 lead changes. A 9-2 run to end the first quarter gave the visitors an 18-10 lead, but the Crusaders opened the second on an 8-0 run, highlighted by back-to-back 3-pointers from Claire Leroux, to even the score. Paige Boden and Brown combined to score six straight points to extend the lead, but UM-Dearborn used another 8-2 run to close the half tied at 28.

A pair of Kennedy Carrier free throws and four straight points from Victoria Guardiola to end the third quarter gave MU some momentum and a 42-38 lead with 10 minutes to play. In the final quarter, the teams traded the lead four times and tied three times, that is until the 45-second mark when Brown broke a tie at 50 with a huge shot from beyond the 3-point arc and MU never trailed again in the win.
