SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Madonna University men's basketball team ran their win streak to six with an 86-70 victory over Lawrence Technological University in the first game of 2020 inside the Don Ridler Field House on Thursday night.

It was a back and forth first half that featured nine ties and five lead changes with both teams leading by six at different points in the period. First, it was an 8-2 run by the Blue Devils that gave them the early 22-16 lead. Joshua Reynolds responded with back-to-back 3-pointers to tie the game and the teams traded the lead until Henry Speight converted three the hard way to spark an 8-0 MU run to turn a 36-34 deficit into a 42-36 lead. LTU made a basket before the break to cut the margin to four, 42-38.

The Blue and Gold came out on fire in the second half as they hit their first three and 5-of-6 to take a 12-point, 55-43 at the 16:37 mark. The Blue Devils kept battling and cut the lead to four on a pair of three throws with 5:39 to play, but that's when the Crusaders found another level. Madonna scored 17 of the final 21 points and allowed just two made baskets over the final 5:39 as Dwight Burton netted 11 and Reynolds tallied the other six to help MU seal the win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Burton tallied his third 30-plus point game of the season as he finished with 33 while Reynolds tallied his third double-double of the year with 21 points and 12 rebounds
  • Speight finished with 15 points while KJ Sayer led the bench with nine
  • MU shot 52.3 percent (34-for-65) from the field and grabbed 43 rebounds while the defense limited LTU to 38.4 percent (28-for-73) shooting and 40 boards

  • Madonna is now 10-3 all-time against Lawrence Tech and have won the past three meetings
NOEL'S NOTIONS
  • "Today was a gritty win. Playing three games in four days, with travel, a conference game and playing on the road is never easy, but with all of that, our guys brought great energy, focus, and a desire to succeed. It was a tough, physical game and we are really proud of how they battled the entire game. We had several guys who really starred in their roles. Mark defended the paint and was a presence all night, Dwight, Josh, and Henry were great, but KJ, Ryan McMullen, Steph, Ryan Nuun and everyone who came off the bench gave us valuable minutes." - Head Coach Noel Emehiser
MILESTONE WATCH
