LIVONIA, Mich.- The Madonna University women's soccer team kicked off the conference season with a 2-1 victory against Lawrence Technological University. In the preseason the Crusaders were picked to finish third in the WHAC, while the Blue Devils were picked eighth. The Crusaders, who are in the midst of a five game win streak, are now 6-1-1 overall and a 1-0 conference record, while the Blue Devils fall to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Over the course of the first half both teams were able to get there shots in, but neither were able to capitalize on their chances and the first half ended in a tie.
• The first score of the game came in the 65th from Melanie Porter as she was able to beat the goalie to the close side. Megan Verant was in on the assist. 
• The game was quickly tied up as Katelyn Mather scored the tying goal in the 70th minute as she was able to beat the goalie to the far side. 
• The game was tied for less than five minutes as Karina Arnold was able to beat two defenders on the break and beat the opposing goalie high to take the lead for good.

• The Crusaders outshot the Blue Devils 16-5 over the course of the game and 7-4 in shots on goal.
• Arnold's goal today was his second game-winning goal on the season
