FORT WAYNE, Ind.- The Madonna University Crusaders were not able to mount a comeback on day two of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament as the Warriors completed their championship run with an 8-3 victory on Tuesday afternoon. Both the Crusaders and the Warriors will be advancing to the NAIA Opening Round beginning on Monday, May 13 at locations to be determined.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Crusaders took their first lead of the series in the bottom of the first inning, plating three runs for a 3-1 lead

  • Noah Renaud singled up the middle and Jalen Thomas reached on a fielding error by the IT second baseman before both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Frankie Lucska and Gordon Ferguson both walked as Noah Moore stepped to the plate and smacked a two-out single up the middle that plated both Thomas and Lucska

  • The Warriors would fight back, scoring a single run in each of the following three innings to regain a 4-3 lead over MU

  • The Warriors continued to add insurance runs, plating three in the sixth inning and one in the seventh to solidify their tournament championship

WHAT DO THE NUMBERS SAY?

  • MU was outhit 12-6 in the contest as both teams committed two errors

  • Jack Ferguson started on the mound for the Crusaders, lasting 5.1 innings and allowing four earned runs with four walks and two strikeouts

  • John Beuckeleare finished the game on the mound with 3.2 innings of work, allowing three earned runs with four walks and five strikeouts

  • Thomas led the MU offense with a 2-for-4 day at the plate, including a run scored

  • Moore collected a team high two RBI's on the day thanks to his two-out single in the bottom of the first inning

  • Renaud, Nick Sykes, and Alex Garbacik accounted for the remainder of the MU hits
