ADRIAN, Mich. - The Madonna University softball team scored twice in three innings to win game one, but managed just two hits in the second game as they split a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader with Siena Heights University at Christensen Memorial Softball Field on Wednesday.
GAME 1: Madonna 2, Siena Heights 1
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- The Saints had the first real threat as they loaded the bases in the second, but Madisen Henry was able to escape unscathed. Madonna then had a chance to score in the third as Sarah Holton doubled with two outs and Jordan Johnson followed with a single, but Holton was cut down at the plate.
- The Blue and Gold broke through in the seventh as Brooklyn Dolloff singled with two outs and scored on an Emma Sikina double to left. The Saints use a double and a pair of wild pitches to even the score in the seventh.
- Madonna won the game in the ninth as Kattie Popko led off with a single, Halee Warren singled and a wild pitch moved runners to second and third before Kerstyn Comerzan drove a fly ball to center to score Popko for the game-winner.
WHAT DO THE NUMBERS SAY?
- Madonna outhit Siena Heights 7-4 led by Dolloff's 2-for-4 game with a run scored
- Five other Crusaders recorded a hit and MU recorded three extra base hits
- Henry improved to 11-7 as she allowed one unearned run on four hits with one walk and six strikeouts over nine innings

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Madonna scored first in the third as Robin Sprys walked, her pinch runner Jordyn Knake moved to second on a Becky Giacobbi sacrifice then scored on a Holton single to right-center.
- Siena Heights scored rwo runs on four hits in the fifth and added two more runs, one unearned, on three hits an an error in the sixth for the 5-1 win
WHAT DO THE NUMBERS SAY?
- The Saints outhit the Crusaders 9-2 as Holton and Warren had the lone singles for Madonna
- The Blue and Gold had one walk and zero strikeouts
- Ciera Jones (14-5) suffered the loss as she allowed four runs, three earned, on nine hits with two walks and three strikeouts over 5.2 innings
