SYLVANIA, Ohio - The Madonna University softball team moved a step closer to one of its goals this season, a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference regular season title, with a sweep of Lourdes University at Pacesetter Park on Thursday. The Crusaders won game one, 3-1 and game two, 7-5.

GAME 1: Madonna 3, Lourdes 1
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

• Lourdes scored first in the bottom of the first as an error, a walk and a fielder's choice gave the Gray Wolves the early lead
• The Crusaders tied the game in the third as Becky Giacobbi reached on an error and scored on a two-out base hit by Kattie Popko
• Popko drove in the second run for the Blue and Gold as she singled up the middle to score Jordan Johnson who led off the frame with a double to left
• Johnson delivered an insurance run in the seventh as she singled home Giacobbi with two outs for a 3-1 lead

WHAT DO THE NUMBERS SAY?

• Madisen Henry earned the win as she allowed one unearned run over seven innings on six hits, two walks and five strikeouts
• The Blue and Gold stranded 10 Gray Wolves on the bases and Henry did not allow an extra base hit in the contest
• Both teams recorded six hits and combined for seven errors as the Crusaders committed four to Lourdes' three
• Johnson and Popko powered the offense with a pair of hits each; Popko plated two runs while Johnson scored once and drove in one

GAME 2: Madonna 7, Lourdes 5
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

• 11 of the 12 runs scored came in the final three innings
• The Blue and Gold got on the board in the top of the first as Sarah Holton walked, Johnson was hit by a pitch and Holton scored as Halee Warren reached on an error
• In the fifth, Yogi Hang led off with a walk then four consecutive one-out singles from Holton (1 RBI), Johnson, Popko and Warren (2 RBI) plated three runs  
• Lourdes scored two runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead in half, but the Crusaders quickly responded
• Brooklyn Dolloff led off the sixth with a solo home run to left and Holton brought home Makayla Bassage's pinch runner, Jordyn Knake, with a one-out double to push the lead back to four, 6-2
• Three consecutive singles, a walk and a wild pitch cut the lead to one in the bottom of the frame, nut Hang gave the Crusaders some insurance in the seven as she tripled home Kerstyn Comerzan, who led off with a single, for the 7-5 win

WHAT DO THE NUMBERS SAY?

• Lourdes outhit the Crusaders 12-11 in the contest as each team committed an error
• Holton paced the offense with three hits and a walk in four plate appearances as she scored twice and drove in a pair
• Hang added two hits while Warren drove in three
• Henry (13-7) earned her second win of the day as she allowed one run on five hits with a walk and two strikeouts over four innings while Ciera Jones earned her third save of the season as she allowed four runs on seven hits with one walk and one strikeout
