LIVONIA, Mich. - It took nearly four days thanks to weather suspending the contest on Thursday afternoon, but the Madonna University softball team finally finished the sweep of Concordia University - Ann Arbor on Monday with a 3-2 win.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • A one-out solo home run to left gave the visitors the early lead then an error on a potential double play allowed the Crusaders to tie the game on Thursday before the rains came.
  • On Monday, Sarah Holton delivered a two-out RBI single to right field as Zoey Humes scampered home.
  • A two-out base hit in the fourth tied the game for the Cardinals, but the Crusaders went up for good in the bottom of the frame. A Selena Deault walk and Robin Sprys single put two on then a failed pickoff by the Cardinals' catcher saw the ball scoot into center field and allowed Deault to score from second for what proved to be the winning run.
  • Starter Madisen Henry and reliever Ciera Jones combined to sit down the final three Cardinals in order for the victory.
WHAT DO THE NUMBERS SAY?
  • Each team finished with three hits while the Crusaders drew four walks, two each from Holton and Deault
  • Deault, her pinch runner Humes, and Holton scored the three runs
  • Henry earned her 10th win as she allowed two runs on three hits over five innings with two strikeouts while Jones earned her second save with two perfect innings on relief

  • The Blue and Gold have a day off before beginning a daunting stretch of six games in three days to close out the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference regular season. The gauntlet begins with a trip to Adrian on Wednesday, April 24 for a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader with Siena Heights in a battler for the top spot in the WHAC.
