LIVONIA, Mich. - A four-run sixth inning in game two helped the Madonna University softball team complete a huge comeback to salvage a split with Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference foe University of Northwestern Ohio at University Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Racers won game one, 1-0 before the Crusaders overcame a 5-0 deficit to take game two, 6-5.

GAME 1: Madonna 0, UNOH 1

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • Both offenses were held scoreless until the top of the sixth inning when UNOH was able to take a 1-0 lead thanks to a one-out single up the middle
  • The Crusaders threatened in the bottom of the seventh inning as Emma Sikina smacked a one-out triple over the left fielders head with pinch hitter Amy Clegg stepping to the plate but were unable to capitalize as Sikina was thrown out at home by the shortstop
  • Madisen Henry tossed a complete game, allowing just five hits and one walk while striking out seven
WHAT DO THE NUMBERS SAY? GAME 2: Madonna 6, UNOH 5
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • UNOH raced out to a 5-0 lead in after three innings as they plated three runs on five hits in the first inning and added a pair of unearned runs in the third
  • Madonna got on the board in the bottom of the third as Popko followed a Johnson single with a triple and then in the fifth three UNOH errors an a Comerzan ground out cut the lead to three with an unearned run
  • In the fateful sixth, Hannah Reinhold and Sikinia singled before Sarah Holton drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Johnson and Popko singled to load the bases and an error by the Racers, off the bat of Warren, brought in two runs to tie the game. Comerzan then singled in the game-winner.
WHAT DO THE NUMBERS SAY?
  • Johnson, Popko, Comerzan and Dolloff paced the 10-hit attack with two hits each while Comerzan drove in two runs and Johnson scored twice
  • UNOH tallied nine hits but made four errors
  • Alyssa Fessenden (4-0) remained unbeaten as she walked one and struck out one over two scoreless innings for relief
  • Ciera Jones allowed five runs, three earned, on nine hits with one walk and a strikeout over five innings
