LIVONIA, Mich. - The Madonna University softball team lacked the big hit on offense as they left 18 runners on base in a pair of losses to Northwood University, 2-1 (8 innings) and 7-1, on Tuesday afternoon at University Field.

GAME 1: Madonna 1, Northwood 2 (8 innings)
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

• The Timberwolves scored in the first inning as a one-out error came around to score on a double
• Madonna missed several chances to score which included the bases loaded in the second, the Crusaders stranded 11 runners on base in the contest
• Kattie Popko plated the lone run on a single to center to score Sarah Holton, it was also an unearned run
• It took eight innings for a run to be earned as a double and two singles scored the game-winner for the visitors from Midland

WHAT DO THE NUMBERS SAY?

• Northwood outhit MU 7-3 in the contest but made more errors than the Blue and Gold (2-1)
• Madonna drew seven walks and a hit-by-pitch
• Popko, Jenna Gilbert and Makayla Bassage recorded the three hits while Holton scored the lone MU run
• Madisen Henry tossed a gem as she allowed two runs, one earned, on seven hits with three strikeouts in eight innings

GAME 2: Madonna 1, Northwood 7
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

• Northwood used five extra base hits in the first four innings to build a 5-1 lead
• Popko got Madonna on the board in the bottom of the first as she doubled home Johnson
• Alyssa Fessenden worked out of a bases loaded, one out jam in the fifth, but three hits in the sixth made it 7-1

WHAT DO THE NUMBERS SAY?

• Madonna was outhit 12-4 in the contest, but MU did manage to draw four walks
• Holton, Popko, Kerstyn Comerzan and Brooklyn Dolloff each recorded a hit from MU while Popko had the lone RBI and Johnson scored the run
• The Crusaders left seven runners on base in the loss
• Ciera Jones (9-3) took the loss as she allowed five runs, four earned, on seven hits with a walk and a strikeout in 3.1 innings while Fessenden surrendered a pair of run on five hits with a walk and a strikeout over 2.2 innings of relief
