CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – The Madonna University women's lacrosse team opened the 2019 season with a bang as they defeated Thomas More University in dominant fashion, winning 18-2. Strong performances from multiple newcomers helped the Blue and Gold to their first ever season-opening victory.

• A 12-0 run to end the first half

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

• The Crusaders defense allowed just two first half goals while Brittney Leist scored four, Madeleine Caswell added three, and Haley Skeens, Madison Kadwell and Christy Battersby each scored twice.

• Following a 14-1 first half, the Crusaders added four more in the second half thanks to Battersby, Patterson, Emily Daly, and Leist, while once again allowing just one goal for an 18-2 final.

• Eloise Wilber played all 60 minutes for the Blue and Gold, allowing just two goals in her first college start.

BY THE NUMBERS

• The Blue and Gold outshot the Saints 33-8 in the contest with 23 on frame compared to just two for Thomas More.

• The Crusaders were able to dominate draw controls, winning 13 and losing just three.

• Eight different Crusaders recorded a point, as Leist paced the offense with five goals while Battersby added a hat trick and an assist of her own.

• Sophia Philbrook, Skeens, Kadwell, Caswell and Daly were the others to collect a point in the victory.
