CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – The Madonna University women's lacrosse team opened the 2019 season with a bang as they defeated Thomas More University in dominant fashion, winning 18-2. Strong performances from multiple newcomers helped the Blue and Gold to their first ever season-opening victory.

The Crusaders defense allowed just two first half goals while Brittney Leist scored four, Madeleine Caswell added three, and Haley Skeens, Madison Kadwell and Christy Battersby each scored twice.

Following a 14-1 first half, the Crusaders added four more in the second half thanks to Battersby, Patterson, Emily Daly, and Leist, while once again allowing just one goal for an 18-2 final.

Eloise Wilber played all 60 minutes for the Blue and Gold, allowing just two goals in her first college start.

The Blue and Gold outshot the Saints 33-8 in the contest with 23 on frame compared to just two for Thomas More.

The Crusaders were able to dominate draw controls, winning 13 and losing just three.

Eight different Crusaders recorded a point, as Leist paced the offense with five goals while Battersby added a hat trick and an assist of her own.

Sophia Philbrook, Skeens, Kadwell, Caswell and Daly were the others to collect a point in the victory.
