@MUCrusadersWBB open home season with a win

LIVONIA, Mich. – The Madonna Crusaders Women's Basketball team returned home for the first time in the 2019 campaign and did not disappoint. The game saw multiple runs for both teams as each team at least was leading by 10 points at one point in the game. In the end, the Crusaders prevailed for a 66-64 victory. 

The Crusaders have now improved to 2-3 are the young season, while the Saints have fallen to 2-4.


HOW IT HAPPENED:


The Crusaders took the lead early as they went up big thanks to an 18-3 run within the first seven minutes of the period with multiple baskets from Hannah Reinhold, Sydney brown, Claire LeRoux and Naomi Davis on their way to a 22-16 lead after the first quarter.


The middle periods swung mainly towards the direction of the Saints as they were able to go on multiple runs most importantly a 10-1 run to finish out the third period to take a nine-point lead going into the fourth.


In the final period, the Crusaders were able to catch fire as they went on a 12-0 over the first three minutes in part from Brown, Reinhold, Davis, and LeRoux as they all contributed over the course of the run. The next five minutes was pretty even as the Crusaders were able to grab a nine-point advantage, but the Saints would not go away as they attempted to mount a comeback, but the Crusader defense stuck together to finish with the two-point victory.


INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • 42: The Blue and Gold as a team brought down 42 total rebounds including 8 offensive rebounds and 34 defensive rebounds. The Blue Saints had 51 rebounds which included 18 offensive and 33 defensive
  • 30: The Crusaders once again pounded the paint as they tallied 30 of their 66 points in the paint.
  • 40.3: The Blue and Gold shot the ball at a 40.3% rate throughout the game. While the Saints were at 36.1%
  • 7: The Crusaders defense was solid all the way through as they accounted for seven steals on the afternoon, with three of them coming from LeRoux
