LIVONIA, Mich. - Led by a career-high from
Caleb Drumm and a near career day from
Dwight Burton, the ninth-ranked Madonna University men's basketball team dominated Indiana University Northwest, who received votes in the NAIA Preseason Coaches' Poll, 89-79 inside the MU Activites Center on Saturday afternoon.
It was a two point game through the first five minutes with the Crusaders leading 10-8. The Blue and Gold followed with a 12-0 run, highlighted by nine points from Burton, to take a 14 point, 22-8, lead. The lead was 17 with 4:56 left in the first half, before the Crusaders closed the opening 20 minutes on an 11-5 run and led by as many as 25, 50-25, before taking a 23-point lead into the break.Â
The Blue and Gold maintained a 20-plus point margin for much of the second half and pushed the lead to a game-high 27 twice, each on a Joshua Reynolds 3-pointer, however, with the Crusaders starters on the bench in the final four minutes, the RedHawks outscored MU 17-4 the rest of the way to account for the final score.

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Burton led the MU offense and scored 29 for the second straight game while Reynolds finished with 19 and Drumm tallied 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting
- Henry Speight added 10 points while Stephan Umfress paced the Crusaders on the glass with seven rebounds
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- 61.5/47.6: Madonna shot an impressive 61.54 percent (16-of-26) from the floor in the first half and 56.6 for the game and finished 10-of-21 (47.6%) from the 3-point arc
- 1-13: The defense limited IU-Northwest to 7.69 percent (1-of-13) from beyond the arc in the first half and a 9-for-29 (31%) mark in the contest
- 40-36: Madonna outrebounded the RedHawks 40-35 in the contest
