No. 25 @MUCrusadersMSOC fall to UNOH in close match

SYLVANIA, Ohio- The Madonna University men's soccer team traveled down to Sylvania, Ohio to take on the Racers of University of Northwestern Ohio. The match was supposed to be played on Wednesday but was postponed and moved to Sylvania due to poor field conditions at UNOH. 

The Crusaders have now fallen to 10-3-3 overall and a 7-2-1 conference record, While the Racers have improved to 9-0-6 overall and 7-0-2 in the conference play. The Crusaders now sit in third place in the conference with 22 points and are trailing UNOH by 1 point.


HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first half was a lot of back and forth as both teams were able to rattle off shots. Neither team was able to get a shot past either keeper as the score was tied at zero going into the half.
  • The match didn't stay tied for long into the second half. In the 57th minute Luka Pekovic got a pass from Devin Morgan and beat goalie Joe Smith to the corner of the goal for the 1-0 lead.
  • The remaining minutes was much like the first half as both teams got off quality shots. 
  • Smith accounted four saves on the day while the Racers goalie tallied three.
INSIDE THE BOX
  • The Crusaders were outshot by the Racers 10-6 over the course of the game and 5-3 in shots on goal.
  • Both teams had three corner kicks on the evening
  • Four Crusaders tallied a shot while Rodrigo Castro de Siqueira and Leonardo Gois Abonizio both had two shots a piece
