LIVONIA, Mich.-  After five full sets of play, the Madonna University volleyball team ended the night with a loss again Lourdes  University on Wednesday in the MU Activities Center.

The Crusaders fall to 21- 9 on the year with a record of 13-4 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play, while the Grey Wolves advance to 11-13 overall and a conference mark of 8-8. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Set One: The Crusaders started off hot winning the first seven points of the first set with a pair of blocks from DJ Sargent and Jodie Kelly, followed by a set of service aces from Olivia Sweeney.  The Blue and Gold held their lead with a pair of kills from Erica Labaere helping them run the score to 16-6. To seal off the first set, 25-13, Janelle Kwasiborski successfully landed a kill assisted by Jordyn Dawson. 
• Set two: In the second set, the Crusaders began with a couple of errors allowing the Gray Wolves  to lead 9-5. Attempting to gain those points back, Kelly placed a pair of kills tying the score at 12-12. Although that would not be enough as Lourdes won the set 25-15.
• Set Three: To redeem themselves in set three, the Crusaders had an airtight defense led by a block from Sargent and Kelly for an early lead, 3-0. Continuing to grow this lead, Crusaders' Tauri Hintz gathered two kills to make it 16-4. To wrap up the set, Dawson assisted Brigitte Vanderham giving the team a final score of 25-4
• Set Four: Lourdes came back firing in the fourth set. There were six lead changes in this set until Lourdes went ahead for good at12-11 and went on to win 25-21.
• Set Five: Scoring seven of the first eight points, Lourdes took an early lead 7-1. Unable to bounce back, the Blue and Gold suffered a loss of 15-9.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

• 60- Kelly led the Crusaders with 60 attacks and 17 kills
• 25- Sweeney led the defense with 25 digs 
• 55- Dawson tallied a total of 55 assists for the Blue and Gold 
• 8- Sargent collected a total of eight blocks and tallied eight kills
• .348 - LaBaere led MU with a .348 attack percentage and tallied 12 kills
• .237-.155- The Blue and Gold suffered their first loss when outhitting their opponent this season as they hit .237 to Lourdes' .155
