Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Andrew Ripke

Defense leads No. 24 @MUCrusadersMSOC to draw with Saints

LIVONIA, Mich.  -  The Madonna University men's soccer team faced off against the Saints of Aquinas College on a day that very wet and very cold. The match was close the entire game as neither team was able to take the lead for good as the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
With the tie both teams will gain a point in the conference standings as the Crusaders are now 10-2-3 on the year and 7-1-1 in the WHAC while Aquinas is 4-6-6 overall and 3-3-3 in league play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The game started with both teams playing good defense to begin the game.
  • The Saints got on the board first when they had a free kick in the 39th minute from Andrea Ghiggini that was placed inside the box and was tipped in by Jai Tahlan for the first half lead of 1-0.
  • Early on in the second half Issei Ito was tackled in the box. So this gave Bruno Piva de Castro the chance at a penalty shot. He was able to beat the keeper to the corner on the shot to score his third goal of the season
  • The Crusader defense was solid once again as only three of the nine shots the Saints had were on goal.
INSIDE THE BOX
  • The Crusaders are now 27-15-4 all-time against the Saints
  • Madonna put four of their 15 shots on goal in the contest
  • MU also had 11 corner kicks to eight for the away team
  • Six total Crusaders were able to get shots off throughout the game as Kyle Tinnion led with four shots (one on goal), Caio Mazzo Nogueira had three shots (one on goal) and Bruno Castro also had three shots (one on goal)
  • The penalty kick from Bruno Castro was the first attempt of his career, which is also his first penalty kick make
