Sargent, Hintz lead @MUCrusadersVB past Warriors

LIVONIA, Mich. - The Madonna University volleyball team played 19 players and hit over .300 in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference sweep of Rochester University inside the MU Activities Center on Friday night.

The Crusaders move to 18-7 on the year and 10-2 in the WHAC while the Warriors fall to 2-19 overall and 1-10 in league play.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • It was an evenly contested opening set before a Jordyn Dawson and Erica LaBaere block sent Olivia Sweeney to the line and she proceeded to serve nine straight points. Jodie Kelly and DJ Sargent each had a pair of kills in the rally to take a commanding 19-6 lead and went on to win 25-14.
  • The Crusaders scored the first three points, 14-of-18 and six of the final seven points to take set two, 25-10. Brigitte Vanderham and Janelle Kwasiborski highlighted the final six points as each had a kill and teamed up for a block assist to seal the win.
  • A pair of Kelly and Sargent kills powered a 6-0 run for the Blue and Gold in set three and a Vanderham, Sargent and Tauri Hintz block capped a 4-0 run to make it 11-2. A 15-7 run by the Warriors cut the margin to one, 18-17, but the Crusaders capitalized on an RU error as Hintz terminated a pair of balls, Joella Griner and Vanderham each added one to help MU win seven of the final 10 points for a 25-20 win and match victory.
