Led by Jodie Kelly, @MUCrusadersVB pulls off a fantastic win against Aquinas College

Box Score LIVONIA, Mich. - After five full sets of play, the Madonna University volleyball team finished the night off with a win against Aquinas College on Wednesday in the MU Activities Center. 

The Crusaders advance to 16-6 on the year with a record of 8-2 in the Wolverine Hoosier conference play, while the Saints hold an overall record of 9-10 and a conference mark of 6-4. 

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Set one did not start off promising for the Crusaders as the team committed a couple of service errors allowing the Saints to take an early lead. The Blue and Gold took the lead at 5-4 with a block assist by Tauri Hintz and DJ Sargent. However, the Saints bounced back and used a 6-0 run to break a tie at 15 and never looked back. The set resulted in a loss, 25-20. 
  • After a rocky first set, the Crusaders were keen on winning the second set. Gaining an early lead with two kills from Jodie Kelly and one by Sargent the Blue and Gold led 4-2. Madonna continued to keep their lead with a kill by Erica Labaere assisted by Jordan Dawson, 12-8. Sliding by a tight finish 27-25 the Crusaders took the set with a pair of kills from Labaere and Hintz. 
  • Just as things were looking up for the Crusaders, the Saints came out strong in the third set. The Saints held the lead throughout the entirety of the set. The set resulted in a win for the Saints with a final score of 25-17. 
  • The Crusaders came out firing on all cylinders in set four. Securing five of the first eight points with a pair of kills by Kelly, Madonna gained a lead 5-3. Continuing to stretch their lead, the Blue and Gold successfully landed two kills by Labaere followed by a pair by Kelly and Hintz to make it20-11. The Crusaders finished off set four with a final score of 25-15 after another kill from Kelly. 
  • In the fifth and final set, the Crusaders came out as they secured six of the first nine points with three kills from Kelly, two from Labaere, and one from Kwasiborki. The teams switched sides after Ryan Castle forced an attack error on Aquinas placing the Crusaders up 8-6. Using that momentum Madonna finished the set with a final kill from Kwasiborki, winning 15-10.
