ANN ARBOR, Mich.– After seeing a 10-point second half lead disappear, Joshua Reynold scored three points in the final 20 seconds and
Mark Mettie blocked a last second attempt by Concordia University - Ann Arbor for a 71-69 win on Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals scored the first five points, but the Crusaders responded and pushed the lead to as many as nine points twice in the opening 20 minutes. The home to cut the lead to one with a minute to play before the half, but Jonathan Swift converted five free throws in the closing seconds to give MU the 35-29 lead at the half.
The lead was cut to two points, 48-46, at the 12:42 mark in the second half, but MU answered with a 9-1 run as Reynolds hit a 3-pointer, Mettie converted back-to-back shots and a Burton layup finished the run to give MU the 57-47 lead. An 11-0 run by the Cardinals late in the half tied the score at 64 with 2:27 to play. After the teams traded buckets, Jerald Booker hit a 3-pointer for the home team with 32 seconds left to give CUAA the 69-68 lead. Following a timeout, Reynolds converted a layup and hit a free throw with nine seconds left for a 71-69 lead. Concordia had one last shot at the buzzer, but Mettie came up with a block on a 3-pointer to preserve the victory.

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Reynolds scored a game-high 19 points to go with seven rebounds, three assist and two steals while Burton added 17 points and Swift finished with 12. Mettied grabbed a team-best 11 rebounds to go with seven points, three steals and the lone block for MU.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Concordia made more baskets (24-22) and more 3-pointers (10-6) than MU, but the Crusaders dominated at the free throw line as they made 21-of-27 while the Cardinals finished 11-for-24 from the charity stripe.
- Madonna won on the glass, 39-35, had more points in the paint, 30-26, and more points off turnovers, 19-8.

- The Crusaders wrap up a two-game road trip when they return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 9 with a trip to Lima, Ohio to face University of Northwestern Ohio. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
