LIVONIA, Mich. The Madonna University women's basketball team fought hard throughout the entire game but was not able to stop the high powered offense of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference foe Siena Heights on Saturday afternoon.

The Blue and Gold found their offensive stride early, keeping up with the Saints throughout the first quarter, trailing by a score of 18-14 at the buzzer.  Despite giving up the first five points of the second quarter and trailing by nine points, the Crusaders bounced back with a Cierra von Zittwitz 3-pointer and buckets by Sheldon Bochenek and Emily Huff. As the two teams traded baskets throughout the remainder of the half, von Zittwitz nailed a buzzer beating 3-pointer to limit the deficit to 36-37 at the half.

The Crusaders found their first lead in the third quarter thanks to a five point swing by Sydney Brown, although the Saints rallied back and took back the lead by the end of the third quarter 59-55. MU was not able to earn back the lead as the Saints lead grew larger as the fourth quarter went on, finalizing the loss by 16 points.

TURNING POINT

  • The Crusaders shot 9-of-17 from the free throw line in the third quarter, missing out on crucial points at that point of the contest.

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS

  • Von Zittwitz sat atop the stat sheet in both points (18) and rebounds (6) for the Blue and Gold, adding three assists and three steals to her strong performance

  • Brown had another strong offensive showing with 17 points, five rebounds, and two assists

  • Two other Crusaders recorded double digit points in the contest, Bochenek with 12 and Emily Huff with 10.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Madonna shot 41.4 percent (24-58) from field goal range, 45.5 percent (5-11) from beyond the 3-point arc, and 62.5 percent (15-24) from the free throw line.

  • The Saints shot 59 percent (36-61) from the field, 33.3 percent (3-9) from 3-point range, and 64.3 percent (9-14) from the line.
